Mary's Grove Congregational Christian Church
Mary's Grove Congregational Christian Church was organized in 1882. Mr.Alvis Wilson and Mr. Green Oldham gave the Land for the Church. The building was built in 1883. Some of the Founders were, Mr Bill Turrentine, Mr Green Oldham, Mr Henry Lashley and Mr. George Oldham. We want to thank God for giving these men a heart to do such a great thing. Over one hundred years ago,an elderly white lady of Boston Mass.was sent to North Carolina by the American Missonary to teach Negros, what a blessing that was to the community of Oaks and surrounding areas
Mary 's Grove Congregational Christian Church got it's name from Mrs. Mary Oldham , Mrs.Oldman was the first to be buried in the cemetery and the church set in a grove of oaks trees.so the church was called Mary's Grove, and the area is stilled called Oakes.Mary's Grove is the oldest church in the area and registered as one of the Historis Places in Alamance County. We moved into this building we are now in September 1976,which was built under the supervision of Rev. Albert Morrow,who worked hard and diligently.We have eight ministrters to come out of Mary's Grove Congregational Christian Church,Rev.Selma Foust; Rev Turrentine;Rev Charles L Thompson Sr; Rev. Charles L Thompson Jr; Rev.Micheal Bowden;Minister Cindy Ann Jones and Minister Bonnie Bowden Moore.
There has always been a peaceful warmth about the church,always loved and cherished by all who have known this church and worshipped here.We thank God for His many blessing ( The First Pastors of Mary's Grove was Rev. Ray, and others, Nineteen in all.
